    Overview

    Vestibular and Balance Rehabilitation

     

    The objective of this course is to improve the capacity of doctors and therapists to assess and treat individuals who experience dizziness and imbalance using evidence-based methods.

    The course will cover fundamental theoretical concepts related to vestibular system and its disorders.

    Additionally, participants will receive hands-on training to develop their skills in conducting assessments and applying management strategies for dizziness and imbalance disorders. 

    General outlines:

    • An overview of vestibular anatomy and physiology.
    • Understanding sensory integration of equilibrium.
    • Disorders affecting vestibular functions.
    • Peripheral versus central vestibular disorders.
    • BPPV diagnosis and treatment – Canalith Repositioning Maneuvers training.
    • Gaze stabilization training.
    • Balance progression exercises.

    Specific Objectives:

    • Understand the anatomy and physiology of the vestibular system.
    • Differentiate between peripheral and central vestibular disorders.
    • Discuss evidence based assessment strategies for people with dizziness and imbalance disorders.
    • Recognize horizontal and posterior canal BPPV and to be able to effectively treat the condition.
    • Design and perform a tailored plan of treatment for people with dizziness and imbalance disorders.
    • Develop evidence-based skills in the management of balance disorders.
