Contemporary NDT follows the ICF model to provide a framework for therapists to guide assessment, prioritization, and treatment planning for children with motor impairments. The therapist is always asking "How do I efficiently assess, prioritize, and plan effective interventions that will improve functional outcomes for this child?"
Using an in-depth understanding of the critical components needed to complete functional tasks, we will analyze the movements of children performing various activities. We will identify key areas for intervention that will have the greatest impact on the child's ability to successfully and efficiently complete the task. Video-based case studies will be presented to further synthesize the information discussed and demonstrate clinical application.
Throughout the course, we will cover contemporary NDT principles and techniques to treat common impairments like poor trunk control, postural instability, inefficient movement patterns, and weakness. The focus will be on facilitating improved quality and efficiency of movement to maximize functional independence in the child's daily life. Participants will learn to prioritize treatment goals, plan interventions, and measure outcomes using the ICF framework.
